Dealing With The Loss Of A Loved One

I know you haven’t heard from me in a while.  Life gets in the way at times, and you just never seem to have enough hours in a day.

Life seems to be getting in the way, too much lately.  Working a full time job, trying to stay up with a full time ministry, working with the Indiana Guard Reserves (which feels like a full time job lately), and dealing with family matters.

They say that God only gives you what you can handle, but lately, my cup overfloweth!

Aside from everything else, my Dad, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2003, recently passed away after being bed ridden for about 3 weeks.

Of course, even with a full schedule, my wife and I was over most every night, helping my Mom take care of him.  We had other family members there as well, so he had great care, up to the last day.

Now the hard part begins.  Finalizing everything, compiling his 84 years into pictures for the Memorial Service, coming together as a family to console each other and remembering the good times!

Being a minister, I have had my share of funerals and memorial services.  The hardest one I had to attend, was my late wife’s memorial service.  We had been married 20 years and it was hard to say goodbye.  However, I made it through and was able to move on, without ever forgetting.  Her memory will be with me always.

My Dad’s Memorial Service will be an extra hard event for me.  I am nearly 61 years old, so he has been in my life a long time!

I know the coming together of friends and family will help not only me, but my entire family get through this.

We all grieve differently.  Some grieve openly, while others keep it buried deep inside and only let it out when no one else is around.  No matter how you grieve, you have to grieve!  Otherwise it will tear you up inside.

Someone once said that tears are the lubricant for your soul.  It’s ok to cry, keep your soul lubricated, and don’t worry about running out of tears, cry all you want, there will always be more!

Life getting in the way has put a damper on my ministry, unfortunately.  I will work to correct that, and while I am doing that, I will grieve.  You never really stop grieving, you just take some times to pause and reflect.  All this is healthy for you, so never forget that!

For now, I am going to work to get back on track, even with life getting in the way.  I will keep working through this tough time in my life and I will persevere in the end!

Just remember, God is pulling for you!  He is always there by your side, walking with you, even if it feels like He isn’t!

That’s all for now!  Until next time!

Be a Blessing and Be Blessed!
